Folkhälsan Research Center was Productive and Positive - Despite the Challenging Year.

The research groups at the Folkhälsan Research Center published 239 original articles in 2020. Eight researchers from the center defended their doctoral dissertations. Nine master's theses, as well as four in-depth studies were supervised at the Research Center. The Folkhälsan Research Center's Annual Report 2020 was published today.

The Folkhälsan Research Center has two research programs - Genetic Research and Public Health Research. The goal of the program for genetic research is to produce knowledge about how both genetic and environmental factors influence the mechanisms of disease emergence. The program for public health research includes research on health promotion among children and adolecents, healthy aging and hormone metabolism.

 Despite the challenging year, with all the new working circumstances, we managed to be productive and stay positive. This reflects the professionalism and commitment of our personnel, says Anna-Elina Lehesjoki, Director at Folkhälsan Research Center.

The Folkhälsan Research Center employed around 200 people in 2020. The Center's funding was EUR 8.9 million in 2020, of which external funding accounted for 46 percent.
